Hair Loss and Eczema

I lost more than half of the thickness of my beautiful, healthy, treasured long hair.  It fell out by the strand in the shower, and I would find it on my pillow in the morning.  So sad it was.  I gave it a blunt shoulder length cut to make it look thicker.

I tried the shampoos for eczema, but they all made my scalp more inflamed.  It was red and oh so very, very itchy.  I think that scratching it contributed to the hair loss like an animal gets bald patches from scratching, but I know it fell from the panic attacks, too.

I'll tell you what saved me, it was using apple cider vinegar externally and a little bit of jojoba oil.  I've since learned that apple cider vinegar and sage tea as a rinse will help hair grow.  I started soaking my scalp with the vinegar and left it on for one hour.  Then I rinsed it out and put a little bit of jojoba oil where it felt dry.   What a immediate improvement.  It put all that other stuff I tried to shame.  Taking Biotin also helps stop hair from falling out.  Using yogurt as a shampoo can be helpful.  The pH is 4.2 (not alkaline).

So, whenever my scalp feels a little itchy (not much at all any more), I take a water bottle filled with vinegar and squirt some on my scalp.  Next, I get a white kitchen trash bag and put my hair in it like a shower cap and then wrap a towel around my head so the excess vinegar won't drip down and burn my forehead.  Doing that once a week stops the problem from coming back.  It helps a lot to kill and control the itch, too.  This method is very helpful to kill the itch anywhere that hair grows.

Seabreeze astringent can also be helpful.  (See the Bacterial Web Page) and note The Fungus and Eczema Web Page, because dandruff is caused by a fungus.  This is why vinegar is helpful.  Using a toner on the eyebrows will help with the flaking.

CAUTION:   Vinegar will sting damaged skin a lot.  Just start drop by drop diluted with water to see if it stings too much; and, if it's okay, increase to full strength.  If I let the vinegar stay on my face, though, it will burn. I avoid letting it stay on my face when it use it on my scalp.

pH of Hair Products is Very Important

When we don't use pH balanced products on the hair, the alkaline shampoos can mess up our scalp .... and our hair, because it's the acidic pH that makes the cuticle of the hair lay flat making hair healthier and shinier.  Alkaline hair products not only destroy our natural acid mantle on our scalp which is supposed to protect us from bacteria and fungus, but they also opens the cuticle of the hair and damages hair.  So, when you buy hair products, go to a salon or a beauty supply store and ask them for hair products that are acidic and not alkaline.  You can also search for "acidic pH hair products" on the Net.

Eyebrow Loss

Try using an acidic toner like "Clean and Clear" liberally ... and maybe even a topical antibiotic like "Neosporin" or the generic "Triple Aid Antibiotic"  sparingly.  Seems like it's some kind of bacterial or fungal issue in many cases.

Helpful Supplements

Biotin, essential fatty acids, B vitamins, vitamin E, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin C and lecithin are helpful.  Lack of stomach acid contributes to hair loss.  Regarding herbs, chaparral or thyme may be used as a hair rinse.  Taking dandelion, goldenseal and red clover can also be helpful.

Circulation and Hair Nutrition

Massaging the scalp daily (not scratching it though) and lying angled down to increase circulation and blood flow to the scalp can also encourage hair growth, and taking hair vitamins is key.
